Care for Your Jewelry

It is important to have your jewelry inspected and cleaned regularly by a jeweler you trust. At Levy’s, we are always happy to serve you and have a detailed knowledge of individual gem and metal care. However, we know that there are many things you can do to preserve your jewels and avoid very real problems that arise from improper storage, heat and light exposure.

  1. Jewelry should be stored separately to avoid scratches and damage. It is best to store your jewelry in a jewelry box or in individual cases/pouches.
  2. Always store beaded jewelry and pearls flat and in a soft pouch.
  3. Avoid storing pearls in plastic bags, as the lack of moisture will cause the pearl to dry out and decay.
  4. Store jewelry out of the sunlight as light and heat may cause them to fade or even crack.
  5. Keep silver away from sulfurous metals to prevent tarnish and store in an airtight bag to prevent air from coming into contact with the metal.
  6. Clean earring wires regularly in rubbing alcohol.
  7. Grease can be easily removed from gold jewelry by dipping it in rubbing alcohol.
  8. After each wearing, gently wipe pearls with a soft cloth to remove body oils and perfume.
